Community Brunch

02_Community brunchThe Community Brunch is organized every quarter to bring together women from all our programs – Day Center, Night Shelter, Transitional Housing, Permanent Housing and Emergency Winter Shelter.

The women could shop for clothes, shoes, hygiene kits, coats, and more. A makeup artist from Mary Kay volunteered her time to do makeovers for the ladies! And Dana Brekke put together a delicious spread for the women.

Here is Dana’s experience in her own words:

“I am a mom, an amateur cook, and a full-time home maker.  I love to cook; it brings me joy when I see people enjoying my food.  Cooking for The Sophia Way brunches is a win-win situation. The women are all so grateful – grateful to be at the brunch and truly grateful for what they are eating.  It’s fun to be a part of such a special day. As I watched the women enjoy the food, I couldn’t stop thinking that this is a room full of stories.  I hope that at the next brunch I will hear some of those stories.”

A woman at the Day Center shared with us her thoughts: “The brunch is classy and perfect. I appreciate that I could choose when I wanted to shop and when I wanted to eat. I don’t have a lot of control over things right now, so having a choice made it very unique for me. I had the best time ever and hope this will happen again!”
