Sammamish Community Day of Service

Saturday, May 20th was the annual Sammamish Community Day of Service, headed by Sammamish Hills Lutheran Church. Each year, volunteers from all over the Sammamish area, representing faith communities or just on their own, sign up for various local volunteer projects, and we were thrilled to have two groups come work at our shelter this time!

In the morning, we had a group of six women come bright and early and work non-stop until noon, deep-cleaning our sleeping rooms. They moved the beds, lockers, (which are pretty heavy!) and nightstands to make sure every inch of floor and wall was swept, mopped, dusted, and wiped. With 21 individual cubicles in two rooms, this was no small task!

In the afternoon, a smaller group of three women came to finish up the cleaning and do some paint touch-ups on the walls. Over the years, a lot of spots had been bumped, rubbed up against, or damaged by hanging things with tacks or tape, so being able to cover these spots and make the walls look brand new really made a huge difference! We even had a little extra time to do paint touch ups in other parts of our shelter where it was most needed!

We love the fact that we are able to not only provide a safe and warm shelter to our residents, but a beautiful space that they can enjoy and feel at home while looking for a home of their own. We would not be able to do this without the support of our amazing community of donors and volunteers.

Thank you!
